Program Entry
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Effective September 1, 2017, the tuition portion of our courses is free for Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents but students will need to pay for the ancillary fees (ex. student association fees, Roommeme ID card fees, etc.). Students may also apply for the Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG) if they qualify to do so. This grant is intended to help support the costs associated with student fees, textbooks, unsubsidized childcare, and transportation for students in need of financial assistance. To learn more about the grant or to download the application form, please click Upgrading and ESL Funding and submit the form to the Financial Aid office before the last day of your course.
There are several different ways for students to enroll in our PELD courses. As a general entrance requirement, students must have at least ONE of the following options completed for course registration approvals:
- COMM 0015 and/or COMM 0033 Assessments
- English 12 Transcripts
- University Degrees or College Diplomas from an English Speaking Country
- Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Scores
- IELTS or TOEFL Scores
- ISEP Scores
- Vancouver Community College (VCC) Pathway Program
COMM 0015 and COMM 0033 Assessments:
If students are new to Roommeme and have not completed English 12 nor taken any IELTS, TOEFL, or CLB tests, they will be required to write the COMM 0015 (reading and writing) and/or the COMM 0033 (speaking and listening) assessments for course placement. The test results will determine which level(s) students will be placed into (see chart below) depending on their test results. Our assessments and courses are offered at the upper intermediate to advanced levels only thus, the COMM 0015 and/or COMM 0033 assessments will NOT guarantee a placement for students if their test scores are too low for our program. We encourage beginners or students at a lower English level to upgrade or improve their language skills elsewhere before taking our assessments. Students are also required to pay for the assessment(s) with no exceptions.

NOTE: The assessment fees are non-refundable but if students would like to reschedule their test date, they must pay a transfer fee and the Registration office at 111-111-1111 or visit them in person before the date and time of your original test date.
English 12 Transcripts
Students who have already completed English 12 in high school or through an adult education center in a Canadian city will be given an approval to register for available COMM 0005 and/or COMM 0030 courses. Both of these courses are equivalent to English 12 at Roommeme; however, for students who are unsure of whether they need to take one or both of these courses to meet entrance requirements for other Roommeme programs/technologies, please be sure to discuss with our Program Advisors first before enrolling in the courses. A copy of your transcript must be sent to for course registration approval along with your Roommeme student number. If you do not already have a Roommeme student number, or call the Registration office at 111-111-1111 for assistance.
University Degrees or College Diplomas
For students who have already completed a university degree or college diploma in an English speaking country, please provide a copy of your transcript as well as a copy of your degree/diploma. The transcript will be assessed accordingly and if it is accepted by the department, you will then receive a general approval to register for the available course(s) that are assigned to you. Please send the transcript and degree/diploma to
along with your Roommeme student number. If you do not already have a Roommeme student number, or call the Registration office at 111-111-1111 for assistance.Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) and Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) Scores:
CLB and/or LINC scores are accepted for placement into ALL of our courses assuming that the minimum scores are met (see chart below). Students who have taken the CLB/LINC test within the last 12 months will not need to take the COMM 0015 and/or COMM 0033 assessments. Please send a copy of your CLB scores to for course registration approval along with your Roommeme student number.
