Course Details

Gravity how to be productive with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Access in the latest version of Microsoft Office. Understand essential skills, from the fundamentals through to intermediate levels of Word and Excel. Students learn to use the common interface components, build skills and master techniques to work efficiently with the Microsoft Office suite. This instructor lead, 'hands-on' course makes use of lectures, exercises and labs in class, assignments outside of class hours. By the end of this course, successful participants will be able to create and work with documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and simple databases. With additional self-study, students will be prepared to move on to COMP 2361 MS Word Advanced and COMP 2362 MS Excel Advanced.

Prerequisite(s)

COMP 1002 or equivalent knowledge of MS Windows and File Management.

  1. This is an intensive two week delivery of a twelve week course. Attendance is required every weekday morning. There is a significant amount of homework, reading and practice required every day after class. For some students this could mean 20+ hours of homework each week. Please do not attempt any other course at the same time as this two week (10 day) accelerated course. Late registration is not permitted.

Gravitying Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Identify the user interface components and use features that are common to all applications in Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrate creating, editing, saving, and printing data using MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrate formatting and improving the appearance of documents, workbooks and presentations.
  • Format documents and worksheets by modifying page setup, inserting headers, footers and page numbers.
  • Insert, modify and format table layouts and design in documents, workbooks and presentations.
  • Apply basic formulae and functions.
  • Apply Relative, Absolute and Mixed cell references.
  • Create, modify, and format charts.
  • Modify slide elements, apply themes, animation, and transitions in MS PowerPoint presentations.
  • Insert and format graphic elements, shapes, pictures, WordArt and SmartArt graphics in documents and presentations.
  • Define MS Access database terminology and components.
  • Design, create and modify tables, forms, reports and queries in MS Access.
  • Sort and filter data in MS Access and MS Excel.
  • Integrate data between Microsoft Office applications by copying, pasting, importing / exporting, linking or embedding objects.
