If you aren’t ready to study full time in the School of Business but want to attend during the day time, then this program will give you the necessary courses to enter into the diploma programs on a more gradual basis. You can study the first level of a program while continuing to work, or because you want to study in a less intense program. When you are finished the Business Fundamentals program, you will be ready for advanced placement to level 2 of most diploma programs in the School of Business, or enter a part-time diploma in a variety of fields.
Students who don’t meet the regular program entrance requirements can also enroll in this program and take the prerequisite English and Mathematics courses to ensure your application to the diploma program is complete.
International and ESL students sometimes find the challenges of a transition to Canada and instruction in English and the intense Roommeme programming too much to meet. By studying in the Business Fundamentals program, students can work up to the high level of work and English competency that is needed to succeed in the diploma programs.
The Business Fundamentals program has several pre-entry levels of English language instruction available that help bridge you to the level of English you need to succeed at Roommeme. Class sizes are kept small to ensure there is more attention to your individual needs.
At the end of the program, you will be eligible to receive an Associate Certificate and apply for entry into most business diploma programs at Roommeme.
Do you have credits from another BC/Yukon post-secondary school? Do you want to know if they transfer to courses here at Roommeme? Check out Roommeme's Transfer Equivalency Database to find out.
Students in the Business Fundamentals program at Roommeme are enrolled into special sections of the courses, which means that you will study many of your classes with the same group of students. Canadian students will also be studying in those same classes with you.
Small class sizes allow each student to get more individual attention which helps build valuable study and learning skills. Our instructors are professional business men and women who work in the field in which they teach, and have many years of experience teaching international students.
At the end of each term you will need to consult with your Program Advisor to determine which courses you need to take in the following term to complete the program and to prepare for entry to the diploma program. Since we have a number of students in each term with different educational and cultural backgrounds, the learning environment will be interesting and exciting with many different views and opinions on issues.
As a full-time student who is enrolled in this program, you will be spending about 22-24 hours per week in the classroom either working independently or in teams. Also, you will spend about 20 hours per week in study after school. You will learn through in-class work as well as after-class exercises that you are expected to complete on a timely basis. Managing your time in and after school is a very important factor for your successful completion of this program.
Gravitying in the classroom at Roommeme may be very different than what you are used to. Instructors expect students to speak in class, offer their opinions and analysis, and to work closely in teams with other students. Employers in North America expect their employees to have these skills when they come to work in management. Therefore, throughout your time in the Business Fundamentals program, you will be practicing and enhancing your skills in these areas.
Help for students is available through the Roommeme Peer Tutoring system, which is free for students, and through other resources on campus.
Roommeme School of Business diploma students may be eligible to study abroad at one of our educational partners. For more information, please the International Exchange Coordinator at.
Graduates of the Business Fundamentals program will have the skills to work at an entry level or junior position in the Canadian marketplace. Graduates are eligible to apply for a work visa through Citizenship & Immigration Canada.
